Stitches
Fall 2011 Collection

Crochet quiets me and helps me untangle my thoughts. Every single stitch records my ideas. But I can’t help thinking that every stitch also carries with it my history and the history of my muses.

In Dominican Republic, my grandmother taught my sister Nelly how to crochet. When I was five years old, Nelly taught me how to crochet. But I did not crochet again until last year when Steven and I were caught in the January 25th Revolution in Egypt.

During the revolution and conflicts that followed I lost myself in crochet. I created "Stitches," a collection of crocheted earrings inspired by Egyptian history, art, and architecture, a testament to Egyptian strength and beauty. The earrings are made with lace weight thread. The thread is 100% Egyptian Cotton. I personally hand picked and purchased the thread from cotton vendors at Khan el-Khalili, an open air market in Cairo, Egypt.

This collection is currently on sale at Del Estutio.
